I would definitely fit into the “eating meat even though I have to kill it myself” category. Animals have no rights; they exist solely to be transformed into tasty meals.

Well said. It’s not that people couldn’t learn to treat animals as objects, given a bit of experience with butchering. It’s that modern farming technology has given us the opportunity to pretend as though we are above that and too civilized to ever get our hands dirty killing a living, feeling creature, and that your sirloin steak was somehow magically synthesized and shrink-wrapped in a little steakmaking factory outside of town.

Everyone who eats meat without shame should have to visit a slaughterhouse once in their life. I say this not because I maintain eating meat is inherently wrong, but because I don’t think we should be able to plead ignorance as to what our lifestyle choices result in.

I don’t believe most vegetarians have a problem with hunting aside from those guys who sit up in trees with their high powered rifles and scopes that could make the hubble blush. As those animals at least had a chance to live out their natural lives in their home environment.

Vegetarians’ main concern for animals and how they’re treated probably lies within the factory farming and animal testing areas. Peta has a lot of videos of what’s wrong, and while I completely abhor their strategies and the scientology-like organization they’ve become, they’ve still got the most resources and the most underground footage of how animals are treated.

As for me, I still eat some meat but I try to avoid certain things like veal / places I know have factory farm meat suppliers etc.

If you were going to kill a single cow to butcher it, the easiest way is to shoot it. A shot to the head is fatal and relatively nonmessy (not to mention very fast). The next thing you do is bleed out the cow by slitting the throat. It isn’t really that hard; farm families do it all the time. There are a lot of small family farms left, particularly in the midwest. In rural and urban areas its generally still possible to visit a butcher’s for your meat instead of the local grocery. Those “large agribusiness” places are still not the majority of food-production locations and largely employ nonimmigrants, recent news notwithstanding.

It is true that convenience leads to consumerism, but then again, we can accomplish so much more because we do divide tasks between people & organizations so that one makes pens while another makes dishware while yet another prepares food and another clothing. We still “barter”, the thing is that money is symbolic of the value in the items themselves and used because it allows us greater freedom of trade.

Back in my day if we wanted a DVD player we had to lock those 16 year old Chinese girls in the basement ourselves. You young ‘uns have it so easy.

This is why I recently purchased some chicks and have been raising them in my backyard.

I felt that I don’t have the right to consume chicken until I can raise, slaughter, and prepare it myself. Also, I wanted fresh eggs.

I’m also going to be hatching my own quail eggs and beginning a cycle of quail production… eventually I will have a virtually free supply of tasty meat :)

I have a lot of problems with how chickens are raised commercially. It’s pretty disgusting, and raising these animals has made me appreciate them, and it’s a lot harder for me to support that kind of disengaged mass consumption of meat that most people partake in. Know your food!

Once while visiting my grandparents in rural Idaho, I killed a chicken and prepared it for dinner.

It was damn tasty.

When I was a young lad both of my grandfathers kept slaughter hogs on their land and it was no big deal to lead one into the barn to kill it so the family could eat for several weeks. In those two households very little of the meat ever went to waste. It was the same with the chickens running loose in the yard. Although it was more fun to watch my grandmother kill the chicken since they really do tend to run wild for several minutes after the head is cut off. In both cases we all knew what was needed for the family(ies) to thrive and never hesitated.

Like you Roosh, I prefer to be a couple of step removed from the process, but only because preparing an animal for the table is a long process. But I do think that more Americans should understand where our food and other consumables come from.

No way would I ever stoop to following a trend just to be cool, which is really at the root of why about 90% of Vegans do it. The human body is designed to eat and process meat. Depriving it of that makes no sense. Attempting to get the same nutrition out of supplements is simply asking the body to digest chemicals that it was not designed to ever ingest in the first place. How much sense does that really make?

You know, there are chicken factories all over this country, not just in the Midwest. I’ve seen Tyson factories outside of Richmond and over on the Eastern Shore.

That’s not important, this is. Cow slaughter, I believe, is usually performed with a spike to the neck. Quick, relatively painless, here’s your steak sir. That’s your fact of the day.

Now being born and growing up in a sometimes third world country I have no problem fucking up any living thing with a mechete for food.

we would have problems if I came home drunk and needed a late night snack and I woke up with a missing arm or penis.

Now that I think about it, “not it” (putting my finger to the tip of my nose) on the late night killing of animals for food.
