I visited Iguazu in HS with my parents on one of our adventure summer vacations. I still have the video of us in the boat near the falls set to the music of "The Mission" (Movie filmed in and around the falls)

The pictures are from the Argentine side. Word is Brazil gives a better "overall view," but if you want to get splashed with water and hear the the thunder, the Argentine side it is.

I'm in Foz do iguazu (brazil side) after escaping from asuncion. Not sure if i need to see the falls again.

Thanks for clarifying Beach Bum. I actually saw them from both sides, but this was too long ago to remember the difference! I remember there was some Argentine pride involved in what I had heard, so most probably what I had been told was that the best falls belonged to Argentina. Thus, your comment on best seeing them from the Brazilian side is in line with that. I think I just got it mixed up. Anyway, I was mainly aiming to get an objective opinion, to check if we actually had the best or most falls, or if this was just another example of Argentine arrogance!!

I have never been to Iguazu Falls but it looks much more peaceful than Niagara, which is crawling with disgusting families on vacation.

By the way, my guess is that you're on the Argentina side -- if I remember correctly, my pictures of the devil's throat is the other way around!

Actually sudamericana got the information wrong. The better view is from the Brazilian side, because most of the falls are on the Argentinian side. Not sure of the infrastructure though.

I haven't been to Iguaçu Falls (as we call them in Portuguese), since early 90's, but been there a few times growing up -- I love it though. Plus there were always the most amazing assortment of butterflies around -- of every color and pattern!!

I can see how riding the train to Machu Picchu and schlepping around with scores of other tourists can be seen as overrated. But as someone that hiked the Inca Trail for 4 days and stood at the Sun Gate for the sunrise of Macchu Picchu, it was definitely an amazing experience. Macchu Picchu was interesting - but the journey there was even more amazing.

Which side of the falls were you in, Argentine or Brazilian? Until some time ago - and I concur based on the times I was there- what most people said is that the Argentine side had better views, but the Brazilian one had better tourism infrastructure. The infrastructure bit (I am talking mostly about better and cheaper hotels, etc.) might have changed over the years. The Jesuit ruins were interesting too.
