I was only going to stay in Lima for a couple nights but the nightlife sucked me in and I ended up staying for a week.

Tuesday. There is a mall built into a beach cliff called LarcoMar that has several clubs, including Bartini, a house venue that is most similar to Spank back in D.C. The girls were unfriendly and no one danced until after 1AM, maybe because the DJ’s refused to spin any Ministry of Sound-like anthems. My buzz was killed due to gunfire outside the club. $3 cover includes a free beer. 1.5 vodka shots out of 5.

Wednesday. A $5 cover gets you into El Dragon with a free Pisco Sour. A much nicer crowd danced to popular house, rock, and some 80′s and 90′s, the best mix I heard in Lima. A bit of a sausage fest but the girls were cute and wanted to be talked to. I got a kick out of partying until 4:30AM on a Wednesday night. 3.5 vodka shots out of 5.

Thursday. Sargento Pimienta (Sargent Pepper) is a warehouse with speakers where all the young, very white Peruvians go to party. The old school music is the type that would clear most American dance floors (Celebrate, Getting Jiggy With It, etc), and there was a horrible one hour set by a wannabe Eminem rapper who has only mastered saying “Uh” and “Wooooh!” in the microphone. A breakdancer got on stage and shouted “Fuck Bush,” but gave props to Los Angeles. Cover is $5. 1.5 vodka shots out of 5.

The night ended at Eka, a lounge bar that serves more as a date venue than a pick-up spot. Downstairs is the “Factoria” where Death Speed Trance was being played at an insanely fast 148 beats per minute. The four people who were on the dancefloor looked like they were having seizures. I’m pretty confident the DJ killed small furry animals as a child. 0 methamphetamine hits out of 5.

Friday. Gotica is a mega-club in Larcomar, with an astronomical $16 cover (by Peruvian standards) that keeps out the gringo riff-raff who rather drink cheaply and talk sports in the hostel bar.

It’s not easy to work the club solo due to its impersonal size, but it had the most beautiful girls I’ve ever seen in my life. Some were friendly, some weren’t, but it’s quite a feeling to be standing with your manly beer and looking down at this sea of fine exotic women. Believe me when I say I savored the moment, and I would have taken a picture for you with my second disposable camera had it not been stolen while I danced. An Israeli who introduced me to the club summed it up nicely: “It’s hard not to hook up with a girl there. The only problem is you’ll have a girl early but you’ll be thinking if you can get something hotter.” 5 vodka shots out of 5.

Saturday. Gotica.

Everyone has bad things to say about Lima, starting with the depressing fog that permanently blankets the city during winter, but it’s been the highlight of my trip so far.

Looks like Gotica has had quite a few top international DJs stop by for a spin or two. Nice looking club, but $16 seems a bit high. By comparison, many Vegas clubs charge $20 bucks on average, but you also have to dress for success and be picked out of the crowd. Is this how Gotica was? Obnoxious bouncers, shitty bartenders, etc…?

5 out of 5….nice……if you went there two nights in a row it must be nice…..(like a double take when a hot ass girl walks by)

Part of that 5 out of 5 is the high ass cover fee for guys, the other part is face control for women……they know what theyre doing.

Gunfire outside of a nightclub? Sounds like a typical afternoon in Miami…

After masterful US government analysis that FARC was out to get us, Larcomar was one of about three places in Lima we were allowed to go. It’s a good place to get ripped off and be mugged by eight year olds, but then again you can hang out at the outside bars all day and night and meet plenty of girls. As far as the clubs, the few I went into were thoroughly unimpressive.

16 bucks here is obnoxious, there it is an obscene fortune. The key is crowd control, as Eugenius mentions. What DC does wrong is charge out the wazoo for the swanky spots but still let in the scumballs.

Isn’t it possible that the really hot chicks only go out on the weekends? From what I remember, all the worthwhile ones I talked to had school all week.

Any stories of naked Latina ass? I’m living vicarioulsy through you since it won’t be until December when I hit Medellin that I get to have the south american experience again.

I find in south america its easier to score in the local bars, irish pubs if possible, then the big discos. I never been to peru though so im not sure if there are any irish pubs, as in brazil and argentina.

Lima has some of the most beautiful women in the world. I am an american from NY, that lived in the DC area and Adams Morgan on a hot saturday night is nothing compared to Lima.

The first thing you have to do is speak SPANISH and stop acting like a gringo! I currently live in Lima and I don’t know any Limenos that go to LarcoMar to party, it’s too expensive and too pretentious. If you want pretentious stay in the states, plenty of pretentious women there.

In order to have fun in Lima forget the clubs, they are too packed, and Limenos are very very conscious of who they talk to so they are very clickous. In a bar you have an opportunity to talk to them and joke with them, and once they find out you are a foreigner you will get laid by single women, married women, it doesn’t matter! Peru is one of the best countries to eat good cheap food, visit exotic places like the amazon, and get laid by exotic women. Best nightlife is in Iquitos and Cusco followed by Lima and Arequipa. If you are single don’t be surprised if you return to the states married. The women are that beautiful with perfect bodies.

Going to Lima for the first time next month. I agree with Chalaco on the pub/club question, but think that everyone has their own M.O.

I’m going to be living in Miraflores for a month and want to avoid the bricheras but definitely want to get laid often.

Anyone got any tips on how to pick out the bricheras and avoid them? And, are the normal college aged women open to one nighters with a gringo or is it a two night quest?

What is your best advice for hooking up with girls here, Gotica sounds like the shit but is it conducive to being able to hook up with very little spanish speaking ability? Well my opinion about your post is that is quite poor, you seem like the typical ‘gringo’ going to the typical places in Miraflores. So, I’ll explain you how Nightlife in Lima is:
7 pm: Walk around Miraflores, smoke a cigarette(you can also can by ‘habanos’ in the House of the Smoke) see paints in the street, exibitions, peruvian designer clothes, etc. Take your time, you’re just warming up ;-)
8:30 pm: We call it “las previas”, it means drinking before enter a nightclub. Best place to do this:
Eka: relax, good music, nice people(in group).
ART DECO: in my opinion, the best al all. European atmosphere, excellent drinks, super clean bathrooms, old movies,nic music,handsome barmans and waiters (i haven’t seen waitress =P)
Bobo’s bar: open mind, gay friendly bar, with delicious drinks, happy hours,funny but it’s no to stay the all night.
Oso Bar: cool bar, you can smoke some maryjane but no been so obvious, there are Rock concerts, very alcoholic drinks, and the place is all red!
WHERE NO TO GO: “Calle de las pizzas”–>a lot of rubbers, ugly people and your favorite,’bricheras’.
Don’t go to RISSO either. Is not in Miraflores but is very bored and kind of dangerous.
11:00PM Go to Barranco, crazy, young,bohemian, “no pousers” and very cute people are there. But PLEASE don’t go to the Boulevar, because you will feel dissapointed. Go to:
DRAGON:80′s, 90′s,no-pay-to-enter,cheap drinks, drunk girls ansious to kiss a man. Girls also have their needs ha.
TIZON BAR: nice to go very early o very late.You can also smoke marijane wiht no gorilas behind you. Large and economic beers. Drunk girls too.
AKA ES: electronic music with live sessions, multimedia, great and very cold drinks, nice and friendly people.
MOCHILEROS: good music and everything, nice to star for a while.
PICASS and AYAHUASCA: bars where you can also meet new people and hear good music.
If you want to dance ‘commercial music’ go to:
SPA, GOTICA, AURA, BARTINI, MAMA BATATA, DRAMA, etc.
…and that’s not all
YOU FINISH EATING a great big sandwich in MONSTRUOS(barranco)or GLOTONS(miraflores)

Lima certainly has some of the best nightlife options in south america, particularly in the Miraflores district.

I have traveled to Peru at least 15 times in the last 8 years and let me tell you that reading your nightlife section put me to sleep.

Lima is a great city but you have a lot to learn about it. You are hitting the wrong party spots. I don’t know when you wrote this but if it was in the last 3 years you really haven’t experienced Lima. You need to get out more.
