I don't disagree with VK or Jewcano. Perhaps my observation of Roosh's experience was not all that clear. Although this is Roosh's blog, I'd personally like to hear more about the amazing experiences and sites along his journey. Such things would indeed make me grateful for, and more tolerant of, the less pleasant aspects of backpack traveling.

Joe T.

Fortaleza is the perfect place to retire. My father and I are actually looking into a condo down there. The weather perfect year round. City is a fun beach town. Women. Thats what you go to Fortaleza for. You'll fall in love every night of the week. Rio's got a better selection but Fortaleza is more intimate. You get your self a girl (or a few) and relax by the beach, eat in nice restruants... man, i miss it just talking about it.

Hi Bobby Rio, it's interesting that you mention Fortaleza. A while back before my Dad died, he wanted to retire somewhere in Latin America and I discovered Fortaleza on the internet. It seemed like the climate is ideal, and the city is beautiful. How is the lifestyle there? What are the women like?

Wow - being a girl, traveling and living out of a bag is a totally different experience. Probably more dangerous, but definitely less frustrating. I could have traveled through all of central america without ever having to worry about a hot shower, a home cooked meal, and a nice place to sleep. Of course you then have to deal with stalkers...but still...it's free!

Makes me miss my single days.

Gatsby, I most wholeheartedly disagree. You can never know just how alive you truly are unless you get as close as possible to dying. Less poetically and more patriotically, you don't know how great the States is unless you see what the rest of the world is like.

That being said, if you live out of a bag and rarely shower it's not surprising to have poor luck with local ladies. They have their choice of poor smelly dudes locally. After a decent hair-washing Lima should be a cakewalk.

I'm maintaining a little dear diary every day so there's more going on but if I wrote about it all right now I'd be in front of a computer more hours per day.

I'm toughing it out in countries that may not be at the top of my list to better appreciate the ones that are (argentina, brazil, colombia). Plus I don't think it's a big deal to experience some hardship for a few months to gain some perspective and experience. Overall i'm having a good time and meeting interesting people, though I wish the nightlife was better. I usually have to wait until friday night to see girls out.

Just started reading the blog.. you been to Brazil yet. I seriously don't think there is a better place on earth. Rio or Fortaleza are places i would recommend.

Much of your advice pertains to there too. except you probably do need to dance a little bit, but it is more important to have light skin and blue eyes.

Brazilian girls are smokin'

Jay G,

I greatly disagree. You have no idea how great you have it until you’ve been on the other side. You can’t realistically argue how awesome one place has been unless you’ve suffered at another. The destination doesn’t have to be a point but just learning and taking in everything even the bad will help a person out in the long run.

"...I am extremely grateful for being able to do this."

Why? Is it a once-in-a-lifetime experience to shit your brains out, deal with all of the other crap associated with living out of a backpack, get laid VERY infrequently (if ever) for several months? Tolerance for arduous travel is one thing if the ultimate destination is worth it (i.e., climbing Everest), but the lifestyle you've been describing doesn't sound like all that much fun. If you offered some of the locals the ability your (former) comfortable life in the States, they would probably do it in a heartbeat.
