Yea it's wierd it's like there was a guy with me holding a portable furnace and I had to keep it going by placing maoney in there and burning it. Some things in Jakarta are not that cheap. I could have done better renting an apartment. It is wierd though that you can drive around Jakarta in a taxi for like 2 hours and it only cost like 15 bucks. The hotels are not necessarily cheap at 100 to 130. When you travel outside though it is around 22 dollars. I don't know how the hell I spent that much. I guess my wifes family lived like kings a little anyway. I know what it feels like to have an entourage. Maybe Rhoosh is doing it at the right age or something in reality being able to stay in hostels and such. 100 a day is what I though I could get away with for retirement but plans never seem to work out that way. Got to figure a way to have a set amount to live on. I never had a problem budgeting for a job but when theres chunks available it is tougher.

500 a day in Indonesia? You must have lived like a king.

100$ is not absurd, considering that the real has gained alot of value against the dollar in the past few years.

$100/day? starting recently, or is that averaged from the beginning of your trip? sinking $35K/yr into expenses with no income sounds like the big hurt.

I have to disagree I would think you would want to dive into the best/active parts while in Rio, so I would actually suggest to spend good amount of time on Ipanema beach and Copa Cabana. (Ipanema areas #4-8 are prime.)

People are very friendly and on these beaches is where we met a lot of cool people. Becasue these are more popular beaches and have tourists a lot of times girls approach first. Whether they want to get paid or whatever is another story but the action during the day was there.

Also with carnival coming up I would think this is the best area to be in, thats when it starts getting really crazy, and anything goes. It gets crowded as heck, but you didn't come there to be isolated, this would be a good "trial by fire." Oh don't forget to eat that good beef and fish they got....mmmmmmmmm salivating thinking about it.

PS. Eat at places where you see people eating, not a hole in the wall. Try not to go in any tunnels or under bridges....or you will get robbed. Even if you are in a car.

If you are getting robbed dont try to be a hero, cause they dont give a shit.

If you want to find the best clubs/bars talk to hotel staff or find out where they go because they pick the best ones. Don't be affraid to ask.

Make sure to hit Buzios while you're there, it's worth the trip! Angra dos Reis is also great.

Personally my favorite beach in the city is Barra -- not as touristy and crowded as Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon. Prainha is also a cool spot, a bit more deserted, so harder to get to if you don't have a car.

Remember that most clubs have a "minimum consumption" charge that is included in the cover charge, so you can drink up to that amount and still spend the same. Beer is pretty cheap in Brazil though.

Cabo Frio is another great beach area, and I like Friburgo, which is on the mountains and has tons of waterfalls that you can swim under.

Let me know if you have any questions -- feel free to shoot me an email, and I'll help as much as I can.

Also, be careful so your phone isn't stollen, unfortunately that really is a problem in Brazil.

Why didn't u get a cheaper phone, like one of those barebones nokias - considering that the phone might get stolen? If you've got the Prada phone - you might have to live up to expectations when running game. I personally have a samsung ultra edition http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/...
but I leave that phone behind when I travel and swap my gsm simcard into a cheap knockaround model instead. Better yet I purchase a local simcard for use in the knockaround model and toss the simcard when I'm done travelling.
