One thing they don’t teach you while beginning salsa, while always wondering “why am i off rhythm”, is the basic act of not putting one’s heels down during steps. Use the ball of the foot and Ola, the rhythm is in. And no need of fancy moves actually!!. It kills the game on the dance floor. Trust me, I have been dancing for 6 years. Basic step, mambo step, right turn, left turn, cross lead and a relaxed composition with a strong lead while doing this, is good enough with a solid game :) And the above list of steps, were the only ones used by a couple in Mexico City to create the most elegant, seductive salsa in the tiniest space on the dance floor, and guess what? I was taking notes and have used it effectively since. So, Good Luck !!!

If you have no exposure to salsa before taking formal classes, I would say it can take about a year to get really good. Most places that teach salsa have about four or five levels before you get to advanced which often translate to five months of classes for 1 style of salsa (either “on 1″ or “on 2″). I still believe that once you get to the advanced level there is lots of polish necessary that you only get with tons of practice – going to clubs. No harm in practicing while you’re out there either.

Have her turn in the cross body move, by using your right hand to give her a little inward spin (so she goes under your arm), then switch hands while you by doing an in place spin, which leads to a smooth setup to intimate over-the-caress.
