I disagree, Salsa can actually be very alpha if done by an old school salsa dancer that can really dominate and show skill without looking needy and desperate to impress. It all comes down to how hard you're trying. The really good guys can do it with ridiculous ease, which negates the "try-hard" aspect of it. But the best thing about all ballroom dancing skills in general is that just like real life courtship, the chick will test you to see if you have skills and take control, and if you do you're in there. Problem is a lot of dudes learn the salsa skills from a technical standpoint but never master the alpha male frame of mind. The key, however, is TO LEAD. Seriously lead. If you don't lead, have any self-doubt or make the dance about impressing and supplicating her, you fall into the beta role and it's over. I’ve seen amazing salsa dancers get nowwhere because the entire situation spells out “I’m trying way to hard to impress you”. However I’ve learnt enough salsa that when used outside a salsa club, say spontaneously spinning a girl you’re walking with in the park… adds that right about of fun to a date.
Oh and there’s this move where you spin the girl into you so she facing the other directions, your arms crossed over her front and salsa step togeather crotch to her arse. Could be I got that from some other kind of dance but I use what works for me :)

Agreed. I’ve been to salsa bars and they’re among the worst place to meet people – male or female. For one, the music is very loud. And even if you can dance very well, there’s no guarantee that you’ll get the girl. Why? one reason is the no grinding factor that you talk about. another reason is that there’s like 40 guys who will ask (or more aptly, DEMAND) for a dance with her. I would not even take a date there. Go dance salsa ONLY for the sake of dancing, not to meet people I’ve seen guys who are expert salsa dancers who bounce from girl to girl the entire night and then go home alone.

Maybe she’s just waiting for the “beta” with the right moves…a man who can dance gets more girls than one who can’t.
