Cali isn’t for everyone. I lived there for 6 months and felt like a king. If you speak basic spanish, have cash and go there for long enough to integrate, you will have a fantastic time.

Dont go in shorts, everyone wears jeans (smart casual) most of the time.

In the Juan Valdez Granada, there’s no wifi but on the terrace you catch the wifi from restaurant tikitako. Their new password is: 1234567890

I went to La avenida sexta This Thursday (almost empty), Friday and Saturday. There were at some places a few tables with 2-4 girls drinking beer but they were not pretty girls and they were lower class girls too.
There were not too many people on Avenida Sexta.

Then on Saturday at 1 am we hit the clubs in Menga. We went to Jala Jala (there was a lot of electronic music there contrary to its reputation). Not one single woman. About 150 people: all couples.

Then we went to the clubs next to Jala Jala. On the left side we couldn’t get in because we were not a couple. The next one didn’t let us peep in but the receptionist told us it was only couples.

We went then to the few bars at walking distance. Only one table with 4 ugly girls drinking beer.

We then went to Mango biche and paid the 10’000 COP cover (5 USD). It was crowded with couples but no single women.

On Sunday night Parque de caña was supposed to be the best place for salsa. We went there and it was closed.

Nightlife in Cali definitely sucks.

They live on this phony reputation of being the salsa capital of the world. But that was in the 80′s with the cocaine money from the Cartel.

Sincere Locals will tell you the salsa culture died 10 years ago in Cali.

There are quite a few disorganized salsa schools though and perhaps very specialized clubs like “Tin Tin Deo” for aficionados, in the South of town.

I would say that for salsa dancing or nightlife in general, any American or European town is better than Cali (as absurd as it sounds…)

There are a couple strip clubs that are not bad…When I went there in 07, the best nights to club were Sunday, Tue-Thursday. Kinda weird, but you would have to go to Chipichape Mall during the day and gather up game then kill them later on that night. Had a great time in cali!!
